Gelish has become increasingly popular in South Africa over the last year. Almost every nail salon stocks it and you simply can't imagine the nail industry without it anymore.
A popular new beauty brand - Sorbet outlets and franchises have been starting to pop up everywhere and the Gelish look just coincidently fits the style of the brand. The Sorbet in Garden's Center, Cape Town is one of the only outlets stocking all 72 colors of Gelish.
Should that particular store be recommended? Once you actually manage to secure an appointment, it really depends on which nailtech you go to. Some of the outlet's nailtechs rip and saw on your cuticles until you bleed and will certainly get a nailbed infection the next week. If you've ever experienced that, make sure you ask for another nailtech the next time. There are plenty of them out there and there are some pretty good ones, all you need to do is find one.
Why is Gelish such a good product?
Have you ever had Gel or Acrylic nails? According to a Biosculpture Gel rep at the 2012 ProBeauty expo, it is not necessary to file on the nail when using Biosculpture Gel. Funny though that about threequarter of the nailtechs using the product don't know about this and will file on your nail anyways! Getting your nail filed down so damn much that you feel every touch and knock on it and it actually feels raw, is certainly no pleasure - it's torture. This is unfortunately also one of the pitfalls of acrylic systems. When applying Gelish, there is absolutely no need to file on the nail - ever!
The next issue arises when removing other products. When removing biosculpture gel, some ladies have to sit for 30 minutes with their nails stuck in acetone. This can be quite a procedure, expecially when you have even a tiny sore - it burns like a bitch. Besides that you might feel a little high from inhaling the steams of evaporating acetone.
Fair enough, removing Gelish also requires acetone, but normal nail polish remover is sufficient. The nails are soaked off for 10-15 minutes and usually the Gelish residue will simply flake off. On the odd occasion some residue needs to be scraped off.
Some other perks - Gelish doesn't chip like common nail polish, but it is also flexible enough to simply getting your nail breaking like it usually would when you know it somewhere or get it stuck. Instead of acrylic overlays, which will make you feel like the tip of your finger has just been chopped off with a steak knife.
What everybody loves about Gelish are of course the colors, there are 72 from red to blue to black, whatever you can think of, Gelish has it. Nail Harmony are constantly releasing new colors - Rio Neon, Candyland, Summer Nights, Magneto and the most recent one Aurora, are the collections of new colors on top and above the 72 and we're looking forward to yet more to come!
